Surroundings

Pamplemousses (derived from the French word for ‘grapefruits’) is a district located on the north west region of the island. Despite being one of the most densely populated areas in Mauritius, Pamplemousses exudes an undeniable tranquility that is often attributed to its expansive natural landscapes, such as the Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. The garden was established by Pierre Poivre in 1770 and boasts 37 hectares of giant waterlilies, spices, ebonies, sugar canes and an assortment of 85 different palm varieties.
