All rooms are located on raised wooden decks with either timber or canvas walls under a thatched roof. Three of the secluded casas have King or Twin beds with mosquito nets, 180° sea views, spacious decks with a hammock, en-suite bathrooms, separate toilets and outdoor showers. Their wooden house, Casa Madeira, has a Queen bed with Mosquito nets, 360° views, a spacious deck with hammock, and en-suite bathroom with separate shower and toilet.
The menu is inspired by what is in season and available at the local markets and shops. For fresh fish or crayfish they like to rely on the local spear-fishermen. Whilst mango, pawpaw or avocado are seasonal, coconuts are available all year round!
For breakfast they serve cereal, yoghurt and fruit, rolls or home-baked bread with honey, jam, peanut butter, marmite or cheese. Order your English breakfast with eggs, bacon, beans and tomato. For lunch go light, usually with a salad, sandwiches or a burger. Dinner is served family style at their large communal table or as a buffet. They usually prepare a fish or meat dish with different side servings and salad.
A short walk from the restaurant will take you to the beach bar and rim-flow plunge pool. Here, you can stretch out on the locally made loungers whilst enjoying 360 degree views over the endless coastline and a sea of palm trees of the hinterland. If the weather is right, they might invite you for an early afternoon braai on the pool deck. The bar is stocked with local beers, soft drinks, a selection of South African wines and spirits, and everything you need for the good old G&T for when the sun sets…
Travessia Beach Lodge is situated between coastal forest and palm trees on the dunes along an endless beach. At low tide, the surf is perfect to take the canoe for a paddle and both children and adults will enjoy boogie boarding whilst the little ones love the small natural “pools” that are created when the tide goes out.
They are not in a protected bay with flat water like Vilankulos or Tofo. This means that there is always a bit of a surf and at low tide you don’t have to walk for miles to get to the water. You will have the beach almost entirely to yourself, except for the local fishermen and the occasional children or women from the neighboring village.
There are no hawkers trying to sell you local curios. Depending on the weather offshore, you will find plenty of different shells and bleached coral on your beach walk. The Travessia team keeps the beach clean by regularly collecting all waste that gets washed up on the beach a few hundred meters up and down their property.
Famous for its attention to detail, intimate and private dining, its beautiful beach and unique atmosphere.
