Ras Kutani

Although only 25 km South of Dar es Salaam, Ras Kutani provides an escape from the outside world, a dreamy environment for visitors to relax in hammocks on their private bamboo banda veranda, in the bar or on the beach. This is, without doubt, one of Tanzania's finest beach hideaways. Cards, chess and backgammon are about as stressful as this place gets!
NB: Prices include international flights & transfers!

Quite possibly Ras Kutani is one of the best beach hideaways in the world. It is quiet, secluded and “away from it all”, but with fabulous rooms, great food and friendly unpretentious service. This is one of the most beautiful places to be found anywhere.

The open-plan bar and dining area are liberally furnished with colourful cushions to create a refreshing atmosphere in which to enjoy the extremely high-quality cooking and friendly, attentive service.

Dining & Entertainment

Guest areas are a soaring thatched structure affording superb views of the beach, lagoon and the ocean. Savour freshly prepared ‘Fruits of the Indian Ocean’ and succulent Pan-African cuisine.

The beach at Ras Kutani stretches out to open water and is not affected by the shallow reef tides of other areas.  With the added benefit of weak currents, our beach makes for great swimming at all times. The water temperatures are pleasant at all times of the year.

  • Turtle hatching in nests adjacent to lodge.
  • The coastal forest, amongst one of the most bio diverse on earth, is home to colobus, vervet and Sykes monkey as well as baboons, wild pigs and the elusive civet cats.
  • Birding

The marine equipment including kayaks, masks, snorkels, fins and boogie boards are complimentary and subject to availability.  Please bear in mind that our sea is open water and therefore not protected by a reef and snorkelling conditions need to be assessed on a daily basis.

The forest walk is self-guided, with guests picking up a map and list of trees from the reception.

  • Relaxation is definitely the keynote.
  • Massage and wellness centre.
  • For the more active; try body boarding, and snorkelling from the shore or explore the fresh water lagoon on a kayak.
  • Nature walks through the indigenous coastal forest, or along the pristine shore.
  • Guided walks to local inland or fishing village along the coast (subject to tides).
