Facilities
Situated just a few metres from the gentle ripples of the surrounding lagoon, The Kitchen boasts an incredible setting ideal for romantic candlelit dinners and culinary affairs with the irresistible flavours of authentic Creole cuisine. The dark wood interior demands intimacy and romance with its seductive shades of burnt orange and dim lighting, while the exterior is perfect for wine dinners beneath the amber glow of the setting sun.
The Beach restaurant is exactly that…a beach restaurant. Its timber platform rests right on the beach, the azure waters shimmering just a few steps away. Cantilevered umbrellas and palapa-style roofs cloak the tables and fuchsia cushioned wicker chairs in a pleasant shade while simultaneously invoking an irresistible ambiance. Dishes are lovingly prepared with the luscious herbs of France and Italy and the freshest ingredients. With an incredible setting, fantastic atmosphere and stellar menu, is undoubtedly one of the best dining experiences in Le Morne.
The resort’s signature restaurant, East is a tastefully decorated, polished pine bungalow that rests gracefully on the sands of Le Morne beach, overlooking the crystalline waters of the Indian Ocean. Guests dine on dishes infused with coconut milk and lemongrass while the setting sun creates a kaleidoscope sky, allowing them to feel as though, just for a moment, the world has become a place of enchantment and magic.
Emerald-green waters teeming with dolphins, miles of white sandy beaches and rugged, foliage covered mountains make Le Morne a sought after destination amongst kite surfers, deep sea fishermen and holidaymakers. However, the area of Le Morne is more than just an idyllic beach holiday destination. The 556 ft mountain of Le Morne Brabant, an iconic UNESCO World Heritage Site, served as a refuge for maroons and runaway slaves during the 18th and early 19th century, and has become an iconic symbol of their fight for freedom, their suffering and their sacrifice. The area also boasts a long history of sugar cane cultivation and is a sanctuary for two rare plants, the Mandrinette and Boucle d’Oreille.
The undulating south brims with fascinating historical sites and natural wonders. The Saint Aubin Plantation was built in the early 19th century for sugar cane cultivation and is now considered part of the island’s national architectural heritage. To the west of the plantation, the Black River Gorges National Park is a refuge for a number of the island’s native species, including over 300 species of flowering plants, a large population of giant fruit bats and the endangered Mauritius kestrel.
Adjacent to the park is the Seven Coloured Earths of Chamarel, a remarkable geological formation that nestles between dense forest and offers a rare glimpse into the wondrous workings of the earth’s natural processes.
